Newport Road & Goetz Road Completion of Improvements -
County of Riverside

Public Works

The County of Riverside Transportation Department contracted with K&A Engineering, Inc. to prepare improvement plans for the completion and relocation of Goetz Road, from Newport Road to Normandy Road (1/2 mile), and widen Newport Road, from Goetz Road to Railroad Canyon Road (1/3 mile). The improvements will serve to significantly improve the traffic circulation serving the residents of the Menifee/Canyon Lake area of Riverside County by constructing a bridge crossing the Salt Creek (and eliminating a “desert crossing”), providing a signalized intersection connection to the newly constructed Newport Road, and by widening Newport Road west of Goetz Road.

K&A Engineering, Inc. assembled a team that included an Environmental Consultant, a Geotechnical Engineer, a Traffic Engineer, and a Dry Utility Consultant to prepare the design. A Structural Engineer was also a part of the project design team but worked under contract directly with the County of Riverside. Some of the improvements were designed and constructed several years before but was never opened to traffic. K&A assembled the existing plans, prepared for the improvements (such as traffic signal, bridge, water, street) and modified them as required to reflect the existing conditions.

The K&A Engineering, Inc. design team was responsible for the processing/reactivation of State and Federal Agency Permits, improvement plans for the construction of the proposed facilities (including street Improvements, relocation of water mains and recycled water mains, the stabilization of the bridge abutments subgrade, the over excavation and remedial grading of the proposed widening of Newport Road, Traffic Striping and Signage, Traffic Signals, catch basins and drain pipes, and the hydraulic analysis and design of rock scour protection to protect the bridge from storm flows in the Salt Creek).
